Casa Armonía: A Hub for Community-Led Growth
A community-led center where education, enterprise, and cultural exchange come together to create long-term opportunity and wellbeing.
Why Casa Armonía
Casa Armonía was conceived to bridge the gap between education, community leadership, and sustainable local opportunity.
The programs we currently offer through Tucan Learning Center and Mujeres Que Mueven are already creating meaningful impact and serve over 100 local women and youth in the community, including:
-
English education
-
Early childhood learning
-
Youth enrichment
-
Women’s nutrition and fitness classes
-
Women’s holistic workshops
These programs currently operate in rented or temporary spaces, often exposed to weather and safety concerns. Without a permanent center, it is difficult to become fully self-sustaining and reduce reliance on external funding or aid. This limitation also makes it harder to expand programming, host visiting educators, and create reliable opportunities for local employment.
Casa Armonía will provide the first safe and permanent community space dedicated to these efforts. The center will expand programs, strengthen women’s leadership, and create new pathways for education, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange.
By establishing a permanent home for these initiatives, Casa Armonía will provide the physical and institutional infrastructure needed to support long-term community development and locally driven enterprise.
Who Will Benefit
Aserradores and the surrounding coastal villages of Northern Nicaragua are home to approximately 6,000 residents. While the region is rich in culture, community, and natural beauty, access to education and economic opportunity remains limited.
-
60% of residents live in extreme poverty
-
40% of adults are illiterate
-
Only 6% hold permanent employment
Despite increasing international investment in surf tourism and eco-lodges, many local families struggle to participate in the growing economy due to limited access to education, language training, and vocational skills.
To better understand the needs of the community, in 2025 we conducted a community needs assessment surveying 238 residents across Aserradores and nearby villages.
The results confirmed strong demand for Casa Armonía’s services:
-
78% would use Casa Armonía services
-
63% reported unemployment
-
59% want to start a business
-
63% want digital skills training
-
84% want more community activities
The survey also highlighted key program priorities:
-
English and language education
-
vocational and small business training
-
safe spaces for youth and family programs
-
opportunities for women’s leadership and income generation

All programs and services at Casa Armonía are developed in collaboration with local women through a structured leadership training model.
Inside Casa Armonía
Casa Armonía is designed as a shared space where education, enterprise, cultural exchange, and community programs operate side by side.

How the Casa Armonía Hub Works
What Casa Armonía Makes Possible?
Casa Armonía provides the physical space and structure needed for programs, enterprise, and community leadership to grow in one place. Daily education, small business development, and cultural exchange acts as a symbiotic relationship creating long-term economic opportunity.
Women in the community will receive mentorship, education, and organizational training from experienced educators, visiting specialists, and Nicaraguan professionals. They will be equipped with the skills and confidence needed to lead programs, manage initiatives, and guide the long-term direction of the center and their community.
